the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler and sascha hedgehog, earned their dance music stripes around the turn of the millennium with a series of strong releases, most notably on frankfurt-based techno institution playhouse. describing their musical aesthetic as cabaret-independent-house, the act forged a distinct sound that combines icy minimal structures with catchy euro-girl vocals, anglo-french funk antics and a dash of dancefloor melancholy. this summer, rework return to the fray with a two-sided affair for paris-based meant records that shows they have not lost the electric energy that characterised their earlier work.

a headlining act among the young and promising producers/djs of paris, john jastszebski, who previously studied cinema, now draws inspiration from cinematographic culture to create heavy house and techno sounds. formerly a fan of hip-hop, a pioneer genre to disk jockeys of all sorts, john jastszebski is now (and has been for the past ten years) mainly bound to all that is techno.

modular expansion is a fresh new techno label, based in athens - greece. the labels first release (a limited white colored edition 12 inch) comes from the head of m.e., george apergis. the debut single features the track >quelle<, a detroit-ish techno/club oriented track, with a distinctive chord progression and solid bassline. the release also includes 3 striking remixes from international artists.
the first one comes from the acknowledged german artist johannes volk (exploration), who re-creates a dub version of the original track. the second remix comes from the rising scene of paris and zadig (construct re-form/ sino), who evolves the track into a groovy and deep experience. last but not least, the remix of irish technohead lee holman (kawl) introduces a darker approach, setting a minimal atmosphere with a unique vocal.

jerome pacman is a french house hero. he started mixing in rave of 90 years in paris and major european events such as mayday in berlin or exogroove in rimini. 20 years later, he is always present on the international club scene. the british magazine dj mag has defined it as an intimate affair of deep, percussive minimal house and tech-funk who speaks about love for music. he signs his new single courtoisie rec. with remixes by armand de ganey aka dj armand and dj freddy & michael avannier.

vinyl only!. professor inc gets around in paris and it was natural for rue de plaisance to welcome his project very detroit oriented. label manager, producer & executive producer of amour, wbttu & reve, all vinyl labels where he releases under various nicknames & anonymously presenting his influences. varoslav welcomes 4 of his tracks: natural evolution magnifies tweaks & complex grooves, sfx like haute couture. the machines speaks and even lyrics embrasses the concept with computer generated voice. telegraphe stalingrad is a collaboration with the young producer modstand living near telegraphs subway station. professor inc used the sound sources he plays usually with the horses and live gigs to make a complete new track, very tracky & dj tool, usa style & strong beat. detroit baby once again, an absolute delight of complex puzzle and chess. >heavy drum, bass duty, this is detroit< says derrick thompson from detroit and label owner of soiree records where he reads a text written by inc himself. pmax, expartner of inc in their band phuko plays the keys while the other arranges them. very catchy & state of the art of the genre when it is digitally produced. hoes this is where it ends and it is for the best. as detroiters in late 80s got influenced by the house sound of chicago parties and created techno, the frontier was little, thats what the professor is bringing here on the today style. this b face remines ds classic key pads for sure.

second ep on shaker plates for rené bourgeois after the successfull >paris at night ep<. remixes are coming from vinyl newcomer elic white and mister daniel steinberg (arms & legs, kittball, style rockets). a real funky bunch package!

in 2011 it got a little quiet around the co-productions of fraenzen texas and ruede hagelstein aka the cheapers. but since the beginning of the new year the lights dont go out in their studio doing beats and sound. next to releases on areal records and bar25 the uy063 was born. title of the name giving a-side goes back on a quote from paris hilton who wants to tell with >amazeballs< how super cool she finds things. anyway the two artists made it real with their concise bassline which will make the people reliably squeak more than hobby djane hilton. on the b-side things turn a bit more severe: egyptian summer quotes with samples the arabic spring in africa and produces a revolutionary ground mood which has never been heard before. on b2 however there are the cheaperesque absurdities on the microfon like we know them. depositing skillfully their own vocals in the belly of a hungry electro monster.

a long time coming, the first ep from the mysterious duo bernadott finally reaches us. the golem first heard those tracks last summer and noticed his body was moving beyond his control! he therefore decided he should immediately enroll these beat-smiths before the competition took notice. introducing bernadott, the roof of love ep showcases the talent of two underground producers hailing from paris and stockholm, two diggers of the highest order, immersed in musique concrete, italo, free jazz, punk, chicago house and such, two djs devoted to tension, hips & shoulders. with upcoming releases on high profile labels, the golem proudly takes them to the forefront first, unleashing their highly original and leftfield take on the dancefloor. on side a, bernadott turns a white funk forgotten gem, expands it before turning it into a gherkin-esque acid burner with unexpected nods to juke, subtly returning to its post punk roots before you even notice. the golem also wanted to have a nice tune to share with his girlfriend, and he got his wish with side b, another post punk affair autistically turned into a dubby madchester piano choon, a quasi absurd but groovy breezy love song

2012 will be a year for new faces on the boe release schedule and first up is professor inc., a producer from paris who has taken inspiration from the masters of the early dub house and techno sounds, incorporating samples borrowed from the days of floppy-disk sharing to create fresh new soundscapes with a very modern feel. he delivers a 4 track ep of stripped back house with complex peripheral textures and effects, from the evolving strings and moving sub bass of path illumination and vtm beos tribute to the sinister echoes and delayed drums of elements combined and essence dub.

newcomer italian label traxx underground calls on the service of kool vibe, a veteran record collector & clubber from paris who, after a well-received debut release on my love is underground, is back to offer four tracks produced with the steady hand of someone who knows his way around a house tune. as announced in the title of this ep record, mr. vibe continues to spread the vibe, this 90s house vibe made of tough drums, bumpin basslines, warm chords and chopped vocals. kool vibe has clearly been nurtured by all that was good about deep and garage house coming from new york and new jersey back in the 90s and he proves it again with this second release

dj w!ld and robsoul – the perfect match. phil weeks recently spoke in an interview about how there are certain producers he always trusts and gives complete freedom to when he asks them to record an ep for robsoul - dj w!ld was one of those he named. on w!ldsytle we get four cuts that again showcase the french producers trademark style of tracks which build and build, creating dancefloor intensity through their relentless hypnotic grooves, before breaking into expertly chosen sampled breakdowns. with recent outings on harry klein, jonk and luna records alongside his own catwash and his more recently launched the w label, dj w!ld is in serious demand right now. a stalwart of the tech and deep house scene, his career path began in the clubs of paris in 1996. working with chris carrier from 2005 under the name of catwash (which also spawned the label) he became well known in the french house and techno scene and by 2009 was touring the world, including being offered the residency he retains for circo loco at dc10. the w label launched in 2011 and was home to w!lds critically acclaimed >palace< album and the club destroying singles it contained. may will see the launch of a new dj w!ld album, d!rty, on the impeccable cabin fever imprint run by matt edwards (radio slave)

theres 8 million stories in the city & if you are in the know, theres a refreshing movement of bodies several stories above the manhattan street bars & clubs in secret lofts & apartments. one of these re-occurring parties & djs providing the backbone sound is sid vaga of rolands six degrees parties. after over 10 years of heavy dancefloor smashing, he gets in the studio to make some of his own sounds. side a is his original latin brazilian house signature sound filled with percussion, funky bass & the straight driving backbeats for a good party starter. side b goes a notch deeper & heavier as d*sol from paris remixes with additional electronics & moodier sounds to balance the 12 inch for early & late-night dance-floors.

first part of a trilogy, unforeseen alliances is a meeting of the french artist voiski aka kartei (dement3d, silicate records, wt records) and the duo deception plan, doryan javan based in paris and r. hernandez (historia and violencia, droid behaviour) based in los angeles. the techno in its purest expression … on the a side, voiski delivers a very strong deep techno track, perfect balance between mechanical drums and hypnotic melody : emotionally intense !! on the b side deception plan gives us two version of a heavy and warm techno track : raw and sophisticated.

for correspondant 06, we have invited another french producer who comes from paris and calls himself offset. after a series of jazz/funk projects, offset found his calling with electronic music. >gazoline< is the title track and its a straight dance floor burner that crawled under our skin on the first listen. >subversive< is proof that slow can be dark, groovy, powerful, and sexy all at the same time, and >addicted< has a taste of trance just the way we like it, not too much, but just enough.

feadz and kito met in 2008 at a music festival in australia and bonded instantly over their passion for music and music production. the pair kept in contact over the years and met up a number of times when they found themselves in the same city. in 2011 feadz invited kito to visit him in paris to work on some music. after a week in the studio an exciting new project was born, a project that celebrates their mutual love for techno music

disco mali! sofrito present a unique slice of afro-disco from the celebrated griot, niama makalou, recorded in the late 70s.
descended from a family of griots (traditional malian praise singers), niama makalou moved to france in the mid 70s where she cut this, her one and only vinyl release. at the time paris (like much the rest of the world) was swept up in disco fever, so along with a group of malian musicians the date was set to cut a piece of disco, griot style. the resulting mixture of off kilter hand claps, raw string arrangements, balafon flourishes and bambara vocals combine with a heavy disco groove to produce a one-off piece of cross-cultural dancefloor mayhem.
on the flip daphni (aka caribou) crafts an extended version that distills it into a stripped down and dubbed out groove.

romare is a young london to paris transient crate digger, collecting dusty snippets of undead voices and antiquated rhythms. once in his underground lab, these pieces of yesterday are chopped, spliced and reattached to create the sound of tomorrow. this ep explores the connection between the history of african and african-american culture in the form of collage to create musical conversations between the past, present and future.
samples of songs, speeches, interviews, field recordings and films were carefully chosen and rearranged: rhythms from africa are integrated with voices from harlem, conversations about race and identity between writers and ethnomusicologists are constructed, speeches from activists are conjoined with the voices of prisoners. this process of combining pre-existing material has inspired three >meditations on afrocentrism<.
in keeping with black acres genre dodging output, romares merging of traditional rhythms of africa with the contemporary tempos of footwork and house is a bridge between the tradition sound palette of africa and future dance rhythm.

i was finishing up a long extended set in paris when the cleckcleckboom crew practically ran into the club to get on the decks. i had hung out with them before but tonight they had all new tracks and an incredible energy. so i stayed past the last ravers just to hear what they would play and that was when i heard “hugz” by french fries and bamabounou. this was a new sound, some nasty nasty shit sitting somewhere between juke and bass music and and i knew we had to get this sound on dirtybird no matter what. needles to say “yo vogue” is hot property and i’m really excited to release it on dirtybird. the half time drop, the chopped and screwed vocal, the stuttering bass kicks, the creepy moog on top - it’s simple and complex at the same time and it wrecks shop whenever it gets played. i did a remix on the b side giving it some db flavor and dirtybird newcomer leroy peppers lays out his own bay area skeeze with hot sauce on top. watch yer bass bins! best, vonstroke.

26 years old andrade is without doubt, one of the most exciting talents from the current crop of young french producers. having built a reputation within the paris scene for his skills behind the decks. releases on dessous followed and last year andrade also made an impressive debut on poker flat recordings. making the first release of his own label street knowledge, its time for andrade to take centre stage himself with the >sugar ep<. its bass-heavy groove is met with a busy vocal sample and refined piano chords, evoking a picture of his street knowledge. sugar is the soundtrack to a loft party. classics snares, mysterious synths chords and crowd noises. fantastic. keeping it old school and rolling with the bass lines and keys, andrade wraps up the originals with irreversible and berlin. for this first release, djulz offers two excellent remixes of sugar in order to confirm the power of this release.

funky and laid back jazz constructed house tracks with spacy dimension by dewalta. we are very happy to release such a fantastic long player which keeps alive our dear paris-berlin connection and our taste for subtle melange between jazz and house music. both tracks malbec and syrah will bring you far on the dancefloor like a good wine does with its fine and deep flavours of fruits and whatever it can tell about the history of its ground. david koch under his artist name dewalta persuades first on the a side with malbec. a dry clap introduces to the affair, short followed by a kick and a driving funky deep baseline which could be far enough to convince any dj fan of minimal hypnotic loops. having set up that strong base, he plays then carefully some light but brillant layers of jazzy arrangements. santé! syrah, follows up in a more trippy way performing a jazzy and elegant journey which destination is certainly somewhere in the cosmos. mastered and cutted by mike grinser at the berlin studio man made mastering.
